Tender for Britain's Food Heritage project
This tender was advertised in The Grocer on Saturday 19 May 2007. Download it at the right-hand side of the page.
Food from Britain is charged with the promotion and protection of Britain’s Food Heritage.
FFB has initiated the first stage of a long-term project to create a compendium of products comprising Britain’s Food Heritage; ‘The National Directory of British Food’.
The Directory will identify all those foods which make up Britain’s Food Heritage and will be the definitive source of information on them. Not only will recipes be included but other information such as origin, physical characteristics, contribution to the landscape and commercial significance.
Irene Bocchetta of FFB said “This is a really exciting project, besides being of interest to food lovers, writers and scholars, it will have a practical outcome helping to identify which products would benefit from further promotion and where appropriate for EU protection.”
Matthew O’Callaghan Chairman of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association, who co-developed the project, said “ From this we could produce a list of foods ‘at risk’ and those that though ‘lost’ could be re-introduced. It will be great to have a definitive directory of British Food which would show the world how rich and vibrant Britain’s Food Heritage is.”
The first phase of project is expected to be completed by March 2008, FFB are currently inviting applications. Interested applicants should download the tender using the link on the right-hand side of the page.
