FFB Export Awards 2007 a resounding success

The 2007 Food from Britain Export Awards were a resounding success.

The 2007 Food from Britain Export Awards took place to great acclaim on 19 December at the Landmark Hotel, London, living up to their reputation as the number one event in the food and drink export calendar. Here are some of the highlights:

The highlight of the morning's Network Forum was the presentation by Carrefour Group Chairman, José Luis Duran, on Carrefour's buying strategy. The presentation, which highlighted the centrality of private label development to the Group's future growth, was followed by an insightful panel discussion with Mr Duran, two key Carrefour buyers, Christophe Missegher and Natacha Simonet and, to give the supplier's perspective, Anne-Marie Beguin from British Carrefour supplier Ryvita.

Walkers Shortbread scoop Food and Drink Exporter of the Year Award 2007

Seasoned exporter Walkers Shortbread walked away with two major accolades from the FFB Export Awards 2007: Scottish Exporter of 2007 and Food and Drink Exporter of the Year Award 2007. The judges praised the company's dedication to placing "authenticity, product quality and customer dedication at the heart of its vision", highlighting practices such as conducting business in the currency of its customer in its 15 top export markets.The team at Walkers Shortbread, winner of the FFB Food and Drink Exporter of the Year Award 2007

Dairy and drinks top the charts at the FFB Export Awards 2007

Dairy and drinks saw particular success at the FFB Export Awards 2007. It's easy to see why these sectors are strong contenders in the UK export tables, when the quality of their products and company strategies are lined up. In drinks, Llanllyr Water, the Welsh water company, walked away with the Drink Exporter of the Year Award and the Welsh Exporter of the Year, while Shepherd Neame, maker of Kentish Ales such as Bishop's Finger and Spitfire, won the EU Protected Food Name Exporter of the Year. The FFB Network Forum featured a panel discussion with key Carrefour buyers

winning the English Exporter of the Year Award, and The Big Squeeze Fresh Juice Company netted the final award for drinks by securing the New Exporter of the Year Award.

Ford Farm won the Innovation in Export Award, with the judges showing particular interest in their use of the 'Witch of Wookey Hole' to appeal to their American audience. Adding to the dairy haul, dairy firm Pritchitt's won the Irish 'Fit for Market' Exporter of the Year.

Another record-breaking year on the cards in 2008

Amidst the concerns about the UK economic climate in 2008, the FFB Export Awards were a timely reminder of the value of export as a means of diversifying a company's market. Sylvia Jay, Chairman of FFB, celebrated the success of UK food and drink export in 2007 as one in which food and drink export records had been broken. She confidently predicted that 2008 would see Delegates enjoyed a thoroughly British lunch at the Landmark Hotel, Londonfurther evidence of the growing strength of UK exports.
