Download using the link on the right.- UK food and drink exports performed strongly in the first half of 2008, up 15.5% on the same period in 2007, to reach £6,057.5m.
- In comparaison , The UK food and drink imports were worth £15,273m in the first half year showing 21% growth compared to the previous year.
- A rise of 21.1% registered in the Tea , Coffee and Cocoa sector and 17.5% in the Alcohol sector.
- UK exports have shown positive growth in the EU particularly in the Netherlands (+34.9%), Sweden (+28.8%), Greece (+24.5%).
- The best performance came from "Middle East/North Africa", rising by 34.7% to achieve £265.2m, with Kuwait up 32%..
UK 12 months export performance
- 2007 is another record year for the UK food and drink exports registering £11.5bn, up 9.1% compared to 2006.
- Total food exports accounted for £7,340m, up 8.8% and drinks registered £4,110.1, up 9.8%.
- All major product categories recorded positive export results; whisky set a new record of £2.8bn, still representing a 1/4 of all exports.
- Cereals and bakery are still performing well with 10% growth despite the rising price in raw material.
- FMD last Autumn had minimal impact on growth of meat exports recording 13% growth compared to the previous year.
- Ranking at 10th position, Singapore entered at the UK top 10 food and drink exports , especially for exports of Scotch whisky.
- The emerging markets showing an increasing opportunity for UK food and drink include Central & Easten Europe (with mainly russia and Poland), Gulf States with especially Dubai, India and South east Asia.
